Looking for straight wins to start the Serie A season, AC Milan host Cagliari on Sunday evening in San Siro.
While the Rossoneri ousted Sampdoria on matchday one, their guests had to accept a disappointing home draw.
Prediction for this match
Milan started successfully in Serie A since Brahim Diaz scored the only goal at Marassi and helped his team to a 1-0 win at Sampdoria.
After seeing Inter destroy Genoa over the weekend, Inter traveled to Genoa on Monday evening to score a positive result in their first competitive game without a goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, who moved to Ligue 1 at the beginning of the summer.
New registration Mike Maignan – who came in the opposite direction and came from French champions Lille – was kept busy by the Samp attack but was up to the challenge and took a deserved goal on his debut.
The two French from Maignan Olivier Giroud and European Champion 2020 Alessandro Florenzi were also involved last time – the former from the beginning and the latter with a short cameo from the bench – as Stefano Pioli trying to rejuvenate a squad that has stalled in the past eight months after a golden 2020.
This week they meet opponents they particularly like to meet: Milan have not conceded a single goal in their last five Serie A games against Cagliari – won four – and only lost three of the clubs’ 39 previous games in San Siro.
After the upcoming international break, the Rossoneri expects a long-awaited return to the Champions League – plus attractive duels against the top four contenders Lazio and Juventus in the league.
But first they need to focus on continuing their dominance on the Sardinian side as they try to set the tone for a Scudetto challenge next spring.
Cagliari also started its campaign on Monday evening when they greeted Spezia in a sultry arena in Sardegna. Once again the Isolani owed their thanks to the captain João Pedrowho scored a brace in the 2-2 draw to save the hosts a point.
After his team had two goals behind them half an hour before the end, Cagliaris took charge of the consistently excellent number 10 and scored a quick double between the 62nd and 67th minutes.
The versatile striker has scored a total of 43 league goals since 2018, which perhaps surprisingly makes him the Brazilian player to have scored the most goals in Europe’s top five leagues during this period.
Despite their considerable efforts, Cagliari have ranked 14th or lower in each of the past four seasons due to a lack of defensive resilience. However, hopes for a place in the top half of this season will certainly be based more on the results of games like last week’s than against the giants of Calcio.
As a measure of their inferiority in this game, they have lost more Serie A games against AC Milan than against any other team – 43 in total – and their last win against Rossoneri was in May 2017 – six defeats and two draws since.

Before visiting Cagliari on Sunday, Stefano Pioli has no new injury concerns as there are only two major failures left this week.
Influential midfielder Franck Kessie suffered a muscle strain during training and will be out until after the international season – Sandro Tonali should represent again – during Zlatan Ibrahimovic continues recovery from a serious knee injury.
After his debut from the bank in Sampdoria, summer newcomer Alessandro Florenzi will hope to usurp himself Davide Calabria Right-back while there is competition between Rade Krunic and fit again Ismael Bennacer Tonali partner in central midfield.
In front, Rafael Leao is on the rise again Ante Rebic for a place on the left of an attacking triumvirate led by Olivier Giroud.
Meanwhile, the guests travel north without a regular goalkeeper Alessio Cragnowho has been out with a muscle injury for at least two weeks. Hence Serbian stopper Boris Radunovic is represented in San Siro.
Both Charalampos Lykogiannis and Razvan Marin have fully recovered from calf and ankle injuries and stand for Leonardo Semplici to vote on Sunday, and in the attack, Leonardo Pavoletti is expected to come off Giovanni Simeone‘s demands on partner skipper Joao Pedro.
AC Milan possible starting line-up:
Mainan; Calabria, Kjaer, Tomori, Hernandez; Bennacer, Tonali; Saelemaekers, Diaz, Leao; Giroud
Cagliari possible starting line-up:
Radunovic; Ceppitelli, Godin, Carboni; Nandez, Marin, Strootman, Deiola, Dalbert; Pedro, Pavoletti
Probability: AC Milan – Cagliari. 1-0
A second victory with a goal in the new season is in prospect for Milan, as they will continue their long-standing supremacy over their Sardinian colleagues on Sunday.
if Fikayo Tomori and Simon Kjaer if Joao Pedro can keep calm, then Cagliari can hardly offer anything on the offensive and should collect at least once within 90 minutes.
