It’s all to play in the second leg of the Europe League third qualifying round clash between Alashkert FC and Kairat.
Neither team could prevail in a goalless opening 90 minutes before the tie, but on Thursday evening they had to give way at the Nairi stadium.
Prediction for this match
Kairat scored twice as many shots on goal as their opponents in the second leg in Kazakhstan last week, although the final draw is still 0-0.
The Kazakh champions built on this stalemate on Sunday with a 3-0 win over Zhetysu in the domestic cup, ending a series of four games without a win in all competitions.
That includes a 5-0 win against Red Star Belgrade in the second leg of Champions League qualifying last month after taking a 2-1 lead in that fight.
The Europa League is therefore the best Kairat can hope for in 2021-22, with either Neftchi Baku or HJK Helsinki waiting for them in the playoffs should they beat Alashkert.
But the Armenian champions Alashkert will also appreciate his chances of advancing, as he also wants to recover from the disappointment about leaving the Champions League.
The Yellows were beaten 4-1 by Sheriff Tiraspol in the preliminary round and now have a second chance to qualify for some kind of European football.
Incidentally, the losers of this tie will be moved to the playoff rounds of the Europa Conference League, so that a safety net is in place.
Alashkert will see this as a big disappointment but they are barely at their best, losing three and drawing one of their last four games.
In contrast to Kairat, Alexander GrigoryanThe team has not yet started their national season, so they had a full week off between games.
