Foot Predictions shows the La Liga clash on Saturday between Elche and Eibar, including hunches, preview and possible lineups.
No wins in 16 consecutive league games, new Elche boss Fran Scribe hopes to make an instant impact at the club with a victory over other fighters Eibar at the Estadio Martínez Valero on Saturday.
Jose Luis MendilibarEibar faces a third six-point relegation in other La Liga matches on Saturday. Los Armeros have scored just two points in their last six league games.
Times are changing in Elche and fans expect the team to experience a kind of recovery of the new coach this weekend.
Former head of Elche Jorge Almiron announced his resignation after the team’s 3-1 defeat by Celta de Vigo last time.
“I decided to leave and I wish my players all the best,” said Almiron. “They gave everything in the game, but unfortunately things did not go our way.”
Scribe arrived at Elche with one goal in mind: to save the club from relegation. “My only thought is not to be demoted,” he told the press this week. “I don’t want to think about the next season at all.”
Against Eibar, this weekend, Escriba faces the very real possibility of seeing his team fail to win the 17th game of the championship in recovery. The last time Elche failed to win 17 or more consecutive wins in a single campaign in the first division was in 1970/71.
If recent history is any reference, Elche is at an advantage in this draw; the club beat Eibar 1-0 at the beginning of this season and, if Escriba plays his cards well, he can repeat his feat this weekend.
Three points for Elche, currently 19th in the standings, could send the team out of the relegation zone.
Seventeenth-placed Eibar have scored just two points in the last six games, meaning Mendilibar will be walking on particularly thin ice on Saturday.
Eibar, which in the past few weeks have scored just one point in mandatory matches against relegation rivals Osasuna and Real Valladolid, desperately need a victory for this tie.
Fortunately for Eibar, the team has been much more effective away from home this season. Thirteen of Eibar’s 21 points came from away games and Mendilibar hopes his team will find more fortune on their travels this weekend.
Against Valladolid the last time, Mendilibar’s men were lucky to come out of the tie with a point to show for their efforts. A 1-1 draw perfectly reflected the lackluster nature of the competition.
Kike Garcia, who came to his rescue against Valladolid, has scored seven goals in 22 matches so far this season and one goal this weekend could get him to equal his best score in a single season in La Liga.

Scribe will not have several squads for his first game back in charge of the club.
Fidel, Nino, Jony and Gerard Barri everyone is injured this weekend.
Mendilibar was very lucky when it comes to absentees this season and this tie will be no different.
Rober and Kevin rodrigues stay out with muscle injuries.
Possible initial Elche lineup:
Badia; Angel, Gonzalo, Gonzalez, Mojica; Josan Fernandez, Guti, Marcone, Rigoni; Carrillo, Boye
Possible initial line-up for Eibar:
Dmitrovic; Pozo, Oliveira, Arbilla, Rafa; Inui, Diop, Exposito, Gil; Enrich, Kike
Probability: Elche 1-1 Eibar
What we have here is a relegation match between the two most out-of-La Liga teams. Despair always tends to play a big role in these types of games, but we don’t think that anything will separate the two sides.
