Los Angeles Galaxy host Real salt lake in the MLS Western Conference on Wednesday, with the visitors looking to move into the playoff positions.

Meanwhile, the LA Galaxy is five points behind league leaders Seattle Sounders, but is eight points behind Salt Lake, which is one spot out of the playoff spots.

Match preview

After missing the playoffs in three of the past four seasons, reaching the crucial end-of-season event will be the LA Galaxy’s primary goal this season.

Greg vanney, who made 193 appearances for the club as a player over two terms, was hired as head coach in January in an attempt to restore the glory days at one of the biggest clubs in MLS.

It’s been a decent start for the 47-year-old, who is perhaps best known as a coach for guiding Toronto FC to an inaugural MLS Cup in 2017, winning eight and losing five of his 13 games in charge so far.

A rate of nearly two points per game should be more than enough to comfortably guide the Galaxy to the playoffs, where they are expected to compete rather than just make up the numbers.

However, Vanney will look for a reaction against Salt Lake on Wednesday after a disappointing 2-1 loss in Vancouver over the weekend, with Rayan RavelosonThe fifth-minute goal perhaps provoked a degree of complacency, as the hosts scored twice in the second half to secure the victory.

Like its next opponents, Salt Lake also missed the playoffs last season, having reached the quarterfinals in 2018 and 2019.

Rather surprisingly, perhaps, Freddy Juarez was retained as head coach for the current season, with the 43-year-old under significant pressure to deliver a better season this time around.

The Claret and Cobalt appear to be on the brink of doing it as it is, currently out of the playoff positions by virtue of a lower head-to-head record with the Portland Timbers.

Just one win in their last five games hasn’t exactly helped Salt Lake’s position in the table, although a loss to Los Angeles FC at the weekend wasn’t exactly unexpected given the attacking power of the opposition.

Juarez will desperately wait for a better performance and result in the second most populous city in the United States on Wednesday.

Correct Score: Los Angeles Galaxy 2-1 Real Salt Lake

We expect a close victory for the LA Galaxy, which has a bit more individual quality than the visitors.

However, Salt Lake showed signs of improvement during their narrow loss to Los Angeles at the weekend, so they certainly have enough to be competitive at the very least.
