Galaxy of Los Angeles travel to Allianz Field to Face on Saturday Minnesota United in the Western Conference of the MLS, with both teams currently in the playoff positions of the final series.
Minnesota is six points behind LA Galaxy, which is third on 32 points, but the Loons have a game in hand Greg Vanney‘s side.
Prediction for this match
Adrian HeathThe side have been unbeaten in the MLS in five games, dating back to July 8 when the team lost 2-0 to the Colorado Rapids.
In that unbeaten run of results, Minnesota have scored two goals in four of their five games, including the last time they triumphed against the Houston Dynamo.
Minnesota seemed comfortable throughout Sunday’s game, dominating possession and earning most of the chances on Allianz Field Robin Lod and Brent Kallman the three points sealed.
The weekend’s result means Minnesota is now five points ahead of Real Salt Lake, which is in eighth place just outside the playoff spots.
Saturday’s win over LA Galaxy will bring Heath’s side within three points of Vanney’s team, and with a game against their opponents, Minnesota has a chance to make a big leap towards the third-placed team.
Although LA Galaxy is higher than Minnesota in the Western Conference, LA Galaxy has suffered more losses than the Loons this season, but none in their last three games.
Vanney’s side have won as many games as western leaders Sporting Kansas City this season, but haven’t turned enough of their losses into a draw to make it to the top.
Their last game was only Galaxy’s second draw in the campaign and it was a highly competitive battle against the Vancouver Whitecaps at Dignity Health Sports Park that ended in a 1-1 draw.
Kevin Cabral brought the home side into the lead at halftime, but shortly after the break Ranko Veselinovic equalized for the whitecaps and so the game would go on.
Both teams created many chances in front of goal, so Vanney can interpret the point as a point win rather than two lost points, and this result has kept Galaxy within touching distance of Sporting KC at the top of the league.
