Prediction: Nottingham Forest vs Blackburn Rovers – preview and betting tips

Foot Predictions shows Saturday’s championship clash between Nottingham Forest and Blackburn Rovers, including hunches, preview and possible lineups.

Blackburn Rovers will try to interrupt their worst phase this season when they travel to Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

The Rovers were defeated 2-1 by Barnsley on Wednesday – their third consecutive loss – and are now 12th in the league table. The forest is at 18th.

Match analysis

Blackburn’s goal at Oakwell was just a consolation as Adam Armstrong notched at 94 minutes at the end of an unimpressive performance of Tony Mowbrayon the side.

The Rovers are the fourth top scorers in the league, but after scoring 31 goals in their first 16 league games, they have managed just 12 in the last 13.

This means that their ambitions in the playoffs have disappeared – they are now 10 points behind the top six, almost as close as they are to the relegation zone.

Blackburn have not lost four consecutive league games since February 2019 and are particularly interested in breaking the ice against Forest, as they face the top five in the next eight matches.

The Reds have won the two most recent games between the two teams – including a 1-0 victory in October in Chris HughtonThe first game in charge – but these are his only two wins in the last 11 games.

While Forest was never far from the danger of relegation in Hughton’s four months in charge, they undoubtedly improved under former Brighton and Hove Albion and are currently five points above the last three.

The 1-0 loss to Swansea City, which was competing for the promotion, on Wednesday was only the second loss in 12 league games, and Hughton said “we shouldn’t just have lost, but won” at Liberty Stadium.

Forest have won four of their 15 league games at City Ground this season, with the last two home games ending goalless against Barnsley and Bournemouth.

They tend to strive for goals throughout the campaign, with Lyle Taylor the only player on the team to have scored more than three goals.

After this weekend, Forest faces two away games against East Midlands rivals Derby County, which is one place above them, and then Rotherham United, which occupies the position just above the last three.

Luke Freeman lost Nottingham Forest’s defeat to Swansea when his wife gave birth the day before the game, but the winger is expected to return to the team on Saturday.

It is also likely that there will be a return to the side to Glenn Murray, who rested on Wednesday, but Forest lost his clinical advantage before entering the game in the 75th minute.

Chris Hughton hopes to have Ryan Yates available, with the midfielder missing last month due to a calf injury.

It was a surprise to see Tony Mowbray switch to a three-on-one defense against Barnsley and he is likely to return to his most used 4-3-3 system on Saturday.

Harvey Elliott is in contention to return to the side after starting the last two games on the bench, while Joe Rothwell and Ben Brereton it can also be called back to the first XI.

Bradley Johnson and Joe Rankin-Costello The two are back in training after injuries, but Mowbray admitted he will not take any of the players back to the main team.

Possible initial lineup for Nottingham Forest:
Samba; Christie; Figueiredo, Worrall, Ribeiro; Garner, Cafu; Knockaert, Krovinovic, Freeman; Murray

Possible initial lineup of Blackburn Rovers:
Kaminski; Harwood-Bellis, Lenihan, Branthwaite, Douglas; Travis, Evans, Rothwell; Elliott, Armstrong, Brereton

Probability: Nottingham Forest 1-0 Blackburn Rovers

Although both clubs suffered midweek defeats, Forest will have more confidence than a Blackburn team that is stuck in a rut. These two teams don’t usually score a lot of goals recently, so we are betting on winning a goal at home.
