Prediction: Sheffield Wednesday vs Swansea City – betting tip, preview, lineups

Bet365 tips Saturday’s championship clash predictions between Sheffield Wednesday and Swansea City, including predictions, preview and possible lineups.

Swansea City return the focus to the promotion of the championship on Saturday afternoon, when they face Sheffield Wednesday in Hillsborough.

The Swans were defeated 3-1 by Manchester City in the FA Cup on Wednesday, 16, but have been in excellent form in the league and arrive in this game in third place on the table.

Wednesday won three of the last four, however, and is out of the relegation zone due to goal difference.

Match analysis

Only one team, Brentford, also a candidate for automatic promotion, was in better shape last month among second division teams than Swansea.

Steve CooperThe men are undefeated in the last eight games of the championship, winning six of them in a sequence that put them in contention for the first two places.

In fact, at the beginning of the weekend, the team is two points behind second-placed Norwich City – at home against Stoke City on Saturday – with one game less.

The automatic promotion is therefore in the hands of the Swans and they have a series of favorable games ahead of them, each of the next four matches being against teams from the last eight.

However, the position in the league may not count for much this weekend, if previous clashes between the two teams serve as a reference.

Swansea have won just one of their 17 away games against Wednesday in all competitions, drawing eight and losing eight, with their only win taking place in December 2009.

The Owls’ position also doesn’t tell the whole story in any other way, having been hit by a 12 point cut at the start of the season, which was later halved.

Wednesday’s acting boss Neil Thompson more than stabilized the ship since the replacement Tony Pulis, the Yorkshire team have won six of the league’s last nine games – as many as in the previous 38 games.

The most recent of those victories was against the Wycombe Wanderers in the middle of the week, taking Thompson’s team out of the last three on goal difference, although Derby County, in 22nd, has one game less.

The points are essential for both teams this weekend for different reasons, so with Swansea looking into the Premier League and Wednesday desperate to avoid falling into the third division.

Probability: Sheffield Wednesday 2-1 Swansea City

Swansea may be in great form in the league, winning 20 points in the last 24 points, but they have a bad record at Hillsborough.
